Even on this holiday, the cars packed the capitol lot. Expect more competition for those spots on Tuesday. The capitol complex typically has more than 1000 spots but with the construction, 200 spots are gone.

The capitol staff wants visitors and lobbyists to use the shuttle service. There are now some new incentives to encourage that.

Parking Program

  • park at Delta Center lot
  • shuttle every 15 min. off bus route #23
  • Capitol reimburses any ride fees
  • Free tokens in advance

Park at the Delta Center lot off South Temple: That's part of the free zone and allows you to take an express shuttle to the Capitol. You can also park at one of the lots along bus route #23 and get a shuttle every fifteen minutes.

If you have to pay, the Capitol will reimburse you if you have a receipt. You can get free tokens ahead of time.

In the days leading up to this year's session, UDOT crews re-striped East Capitol Boulevard. That created a few dozen new parking spots. Also, crews poured concrete on the west side of the complex creating more spaces there.

Remember this: There is parking along side streets near the Capitol but neighbors have complained about congestion. So parking there is only allowed for one hour. If you want to park longer, you have to get a residential permit.
