OREM -- Students at Vineyard Elementary School in Orem recently embarked on a service project to help the people of Japan, and Monday their efforts paid off in the form of thousands of pennies.
The inspiration for the project was a quote from Mother Teresa: "We can do no great thing, only small things with great love."
Pennies are pretty small, until you gather thousands of them. That's what students from did, and now they're donating them to help the victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
"They have said this is really hard work, but they realize that the more work that they're doing it just means that they're raising more money to help other people," said first-grade teacher Shellie Dean.
Vineyard Elementary students donated more than $1,500 to the Japanese Red Cross.
