SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The State Board of Education would like to see optional, full-day kindergarten in place to help children at risk for academic failure.

The board is supporting Governor Jon Huntsman's proposal for the program, which includes seven (M)illion to fund it.

In Utah, students aren't required to attend kindergarten and most schools offer half-day programs. But 15 Utah school districts offer full-day programs, mostly with federal money for low-income schools.
