EAGLE MOUNTAIN -- What started out as an Eagle Scout project turned into much more for kids at an Eagle Mountain elementary school.

High school freshman Austin Brower combined his love for reading and a love for running to raise money for the new Mountain Trails Elementary School -- where his younger siblings attend. He noticed the school needed books, so he organized "Run for Reading," where parents and students could run for prizes provided by local businesses.

All his hard work paid off -- the 5K brought in more than $10,000 for new books.

It really is a huge difference. It had to at least probably double the amount of books that we had.

"I decided for my Eagle Scout project I should help kids learn to be physical and to help support them with their school," said Brower.

"It really is a huge difference," said principal David Turner. "It had to at least probably double the amount of books that we had, so we're really appreciative and the kids are still reading."

Brower plans to make the "Run for Reading" an annual event.
