Brooke Walker Reporting Another high speed chase took place in West Valley City. Police say this one was justified, because the suspect was wanted and dangerous.

"He had nothing to lose. It was extremely important that he be taken into custody. The incident resolved in a safe manner."

Officials at Adult Probation and Parole have him in custody. But he didn't go down without a fight. Police say this guy was determined not to be caught. He tried to escape from authorities three different times.

The whole thing began around 11:00 last night, when West Valley Police tried to arrest 32-year-old Gerad Ohlyniler on charges of aggravated assault and parole violation.

He immediately fled, driving away at high speeds. Just minutes into the chase, police attempted to spike the tires on his car, and actually flattened a front tire. But Ohlyniler kept going, tearing through intersections and ignoring all traffic lights and laws.

Sgt. Martin Turner: "It was an escalating situation. When the vehicle was partially disabled with a flat tire, still a total disregard, and he continued with a high speed."

Just when they thought they had lost him, Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit. They caught up with the car and forced it off the road.

The incident was not over yet, though. The suspect tried again to get away, this time on foot. But he didn't get far. Police caught up with him a few block away and took him into custody.

He faces more charges in addition to those outstanding charges we told you about.

This is the third high speed chase for West Valley city this week. Obviously it's not a trend they want to see continue.
