OGDEN — Authorities have identified the man shot by police following an Ogden bank robbery on Friday. He is 45-year-old Michael Ames, of Weber County. Ames underwent surgery Friday night and is believed to be in critical condition.

He was wounded after allegedly leading police on an eventful chase Friday. The pursuit began after a man reportedly robbed a Key Bank branch located at 3775 Wall Ave. in Ogden. The robber ordered employees to a back room of the bank at gunpoint before leaving the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. No bank employees were injured during the robbery.
After police obtained a description of the robber and his vehicle, a Riverdale officer spotted the vehicle and a high-speed chase ensued. Officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle, and it was later reported the man had abandoned the vehicle and carjacked a woman at gunpoint. The woman fled the scene unharmed, police said.
The stolen vehicle was later spotted in the 3800 block of Raymond Avenue, and officers began searching the area for the man. Authorities said the man had allegedly forced his way into a nearby residence where a fight ensued between the man and the homeowner.
Officers saw the man leaving the residence. He allegedly pointed his weapon at police, who then opened fire — shooting him in the leg. He was transported to McKay Dee hospital for treatment.
