Coco Warner ReportingWith the 2006 Winter Olympics getting underway in just about a month, are you ready to support your team with what you wear?
Roots, the official clothing supplier for the U.S. Olympic team, unveiled its new line for the Torino games.
If the battle cry for Olympic athletes is faster, higher, and stronger, then the battle cry for the company supplying Olympic clothing may be fresher, hipper, yet simpler. Roots is now offering official Olympic wear.
Steven Cummings/Roots: "They did a retro styling, as you can see, on some of the merchandise here. Kind of our highlights, or the best of the bunch that we have, is we've got a new track jacket in that's been very popular. And a festive vest. It's been very popular with women."
This year's line is inspired by the 1970's. It's supposed to invoke feelings of nostalgia. But it's also supposed to inspire people to buy and wear it.
Steven Cummings/Roots: "Something that customers are saying they like is it's not so loud this year. It's not so blasting. It's a little bit more subtle. You can wear the pieces more often."
You'll probably remember how popular those berets were during the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Games. Only time will tell if this year's model enjoys the same success.
Steven Cummings/Roots: "Up above your ears. Pull it back a little bit, like a poor boy style. Kind of tighten it around the sides, smooth it out. It's got a decent fit. Again, a little bit of a retro look."
Jeremy Harding/Customer: "I like it. I think I look like a world class athlete with this on. It makes me feel like one, anyway."
So will this year's beret be the must have item in Italy? At $24.95, it certainly is the most affordable.
And for the first time, Roots has partnered with Target to offer the Olympic clothing at Target stores.
