SACRAMENTO - Women's heart health will get a boost this year with a $150,000 federal grant to the UC Davis Women's Cardiovascular Medicine Program.
The money, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will allow cardiac specialists at UC Davis Medical Center to target women at risk for heart disease.
OAS_AD('Button20'); The one-year grant will pay for heart screenings, risk assessments and education for women on how to make lifestyle changes to prevent heart attacks and strokes.
The grant will specifically target women in rural communities without access to specialized heart care, as well as African American women, who have the highest death rates from heart disease, and Latinas, who have high rates of diabetes and are at increased risk for heart disease.
