OREM, Utah (AP) -- Blizzard-like conditions and a snowy forecast continues to hamper efforts in the search for a Salt Lake City man who disappeared during an avalanche in Provo Canyon over the holiday weekend.
Thirty-one-year-old Marshall Higgins, who was snowshoeing with a friend on Saturday, is presumed dead after the two got caught in a slide on Mount Timpanogos near Emerald Lake.
The search for Higgins was supposed to start on Sunday morning, but the weather did NOT cooperate that day or on Monday. And with the snow and avalanche danger, crews aren't sure when it will be safe enough to search for Higgins.
Utah County sheriff's Sergeant Darren Gilbert says they're just waiting on the weather. He says it's an extremely dangerous area and they don't want to send anybody until it's safe.
Jeffrey Frederick, who was with Higgins, was able to escape the avalanche and call for help.
