SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City police want the help of young, creative minds in the fight against drugs.
Wednesday morning, Chief Chris Burbank visited East High School to announce a new poster design contest for students. He is inviting all the city's high school students to create posters with an anti-drug message.
Burbank hopes that by getting students involved it will give them a personal reason to avoid drugs.
"Education is kind of the route out of crime and poverty and drug abuse," he said. "This is an opportunity for us to say, ‘Hey, we may prevent a crime from occurring by participating with the students.'"
The winning designs will be posted on billboards, buildings and Utah Transit Authority vehicles. Winners in the past have also won cameras, iPads, even scholarships.
Burbank says the quality of artwork has become so advanced some advertising agencies have offered internships to young artists.
