Sammy Linebaugh reporting A case involving a child found wandering the streets of West Valley goes before a judge today.

The little girl was placed in foster care after she was found alone last Friday on 37th South and 27th West. This morning a judge will decide whether four-year-old Emily Wilson should be returned to her mother's care.

The little girl was found last Friday, just before Christmas, wandering the street. Police say her stepfather was supposed to be watching her while her mother was at work. They say it is unclear whether he abandoned her, or she wandered out of the house on her own.

Police located Emily's mother, but made the decision not to return the child to her custody at that time. She spent Christmas with a foster family.

Today, a judge will weigh the options.

Carol Sisco/Utah Human Services: "One would be to return her to mom, but provide services for mom. Make sure there's a good safety plan so she'll be supervised all the time. The other would have her stay with relatives she knows really well."

The hearing is scheduled for 11 am at the South Jordan courthourse.

Emily's stepfather has been charged in this case with child abuse and neglect.
