TULSA, Okla., Dec 26, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- "American Idol" winner and country music superstar Carrie Underwood has been named Oklahoma magazine's "Oklahoman of the Year."
Underwood's debut album, "Some Hearts," came out last month and soared to No. 1 on Billboard's Country Album chart -- the highest-debuting country album since Billboard started using Soundscan sales figures for chart compilation.
In bestowing the honor on the Checotah, Okla., native, the magazine's editors said Underwood encompasses all that makes the state great and has the character and humility to be so honored, KOTV, Tulsa, reported Monday.
