PROVO, Utah (AP) -- The Provo Airport will begin transitioning into a new radar system over the next few months.
The Daily Herald of Provo says the airport's new air surveillance system will allow it to schedule more commercial flights.
Airport manager Steve Gleason says the new radar system will replace their old method of using binoculars and white boards to help guide planes.
He credited former Mayor Lewis Billings for striking a deal with the Federal Aviation Administration in 2008 to implement the radar.
The report said the airport radar system will be housed in a newly built $2.2 million control tower. The tower cost $4 million less than was originally estimated to build.
