OGDEN -- The FAA is investigating what caused a helicopter to go down west of Willard Bay Thursday night.

According Adam Wilkerson, operations manager for the company that operates the aircraft -- Whirlybird Helicopters -- it wasn't a mechanical issue.

Wilkerson declined to speak to KSL on camera due to the pending investigation, but did say two commercial pilots were in the helicopter around 5:30 p.m. when an issue prompted one of them to put the helicopter down about 15 miles north west of the Ogden-Hinckley Airport.

Wilkerson says during that descent, the aircraft flipped on its side and sank into the mud. He says when the helicopter went down, one of the pilots called back to report the crash and another helicopter flew out to pick up the two occupants -- who weren't hurt.

Wilkerson would not comment on the purpose of the flight.

Whirlybird is a flight school, but it's unclear whether there was training going on at the time of the crash.
