SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Investigators say a body found inside a Salt Lake City motel this morning appears to have died of a drug overdose.

Salt Lake City police Detective Dwayne Baird says the body of 43-year-old Donald Howes was found early this morning inside the Chateau Motel, located at 1999 West North Temple.

Baird says the man's girlfriend told them Howes had been using methamphetamine for five days straight. She apparently told police last night she left for a short time after the two got into a fight.

Baird says when the woman returned she found Howes lying on the bathroom floor dead from what appeared to be a drug overdose.

However, detectives says the official cause of death will NOT been released until the medical examiner performs an autopsy.
