SALT LAKE CITY -- Over the years, Utah's ski resorts have learned that if you want to get parents to ski, it helps to get their kids interested.
Ski Utah Marketing Director Raelene Davis said, "If your kid is going to try something, as a parent, you're going to want to be with them."
Davis said their 4th, 5th and 6th grade passports are getting more adults to give the sport a shot.
"In the passport, some of the resorts do offer a ‘learn to ski' lesson or ‘learn to snowboard' lesson for the accompanying adult with the child," Davis explained.
Plus, their "Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month" initiative has made them see a jump in the number of people coming to the resorts in January.
"There were some resorts that actually saw a big conversion in those people learning to ski or snowboard in buying season passes to their resorts this year," Davis said.
She said people usually need three visits to decide whether they like the sport.
"Chances are they're going to decide, ‘Yes, it's for me.' Then, next year, they will buy those early season lift tickets," she said.
