SALT LAKE CITY — The man accused of a brutal slaying last month in a Sugar House park has been charged with another sexual assault.

Paul David Vara, 30, was seen violently assaulting an "incoherent" woman Dec. 14 in Pioneer Park, 350 W. 400 South, according to charges filed Thursday in 3rd District Court. The woman was taken to University Hospital for surgery.
Vara is charged with object rape, a first-degree felony.
He was previously charged with aggravated murder, object rape and forcible sex abuse in the killing of Kristine Marie Gabel, 45, Dec. 18 in a Fairmont Park bathroom. He allegedly strangled her with string and mutilated her body in the course of that attack.
Vara is due in court Monday for a scheduling hearing in that case. He is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on $5 million bail.
