PARIS (AFX) - Sanofi-Pasteur MSD, the vaccine producer jointly owned by Sanofi-Aventis and Merck & Co, said it has filed a request with the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products for approval of its Gardasil cervical cancer vaccine.

The request comes just a few days after a similar request with the US Food and Drug Administration.

Gardasil was developed by Merck, and aims to protect against four types of viruses that are the main causes of cervical cancer, the second most-deadly form of cancer for women aged 15 to 44 after breast cancer.
