(KSL News) You may know the names of everyone in your family portrait, but do you know their medical history? That information can be vital to keeping your own health on track.
Now there's a simple tool to help families gather health information and keep it in one place. It's called My Family Health Portrait and it is sponsored by the U.S. Surgeon General. It focuses on six diseases with strong family links, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. And knowing how they run through your family is good medicine in preventing and treating disease.
Patient Pete Zumpfe says, "It surprised me because he looked at it and after 15 seconds he said 'everybody in your family seems to die of a stroke or heart attack, you're going on baby aspirin.'"
