SALT LAKE CITY -- Utahns' spirit of giving is pushing the Utah Food Bank closer to a winning $1 million in an online contest sponsored by Walmart.
Salt Lake City is now just one step away from winning the Walmart Fighting Hunger Together Challenge. Fresno, Calif., is in first place, but Salt Lake is trailing by only about 600 votes.
If Salt Lake wins, the Utah Food Bank will get $1 million from Walmart. If it ends in second place, it will get $100,000.
To place a vote, log on to Facebook in the next five days and "Like" Salt Lake.
Walmart says it has made a commitment to donate $2 billion by 2015 to the fight against hunger in America. It is letting customers go online and decide which of 100 communities most needs the support. The winner get $1 million, with each of the next five communities receiving $100,000 each.
