SALT LAKE CITY — A Kearns man has been charged with murder for allegedly beating his half-brother to death, according to charges filed Thursday in 3rd District Court.
Christopher Blackhorse, 34, called 911 on Dec. 15, tand said that his 22-year-old brother, Daryl Antonio, was not breathing, charges state. He later told Unified Police he and his brother had gotten into an argument the day before and Blackhorse hit his brother in the head with a speaker, charges state. When Blackhorse woke up in the morning, Anotnio was not responsive, charges state.
Officers reported that they found the victim "badly beaten with severe trauma to his face, head, and body." There was blood "all over the carpet, couches and walls," charges state.
A medical examiner found that the victim suffered stab wounds in addition to multiple blunt force injuries, according to charges.
Blackhorse also told police he threw away knives and Antonio's clothes and attempted to clean up blood at the scene using a sponge, charges state.
The half-brothers lived in the house together for more than two years, according to Unified Police.
Blackhorse is charged with murder, a first degree felony, in addition to obstructing justice, a second degree felony.
In 2006, Blackhorse was found guilty of an amended charge of attempted assault by a prisoner, according to Utah State Court records. In 2002 he was convicted of violation of a protective order and simple assault.
