OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Authorities say a Utah airport is changing takeoff rules to protect nearby neighborhoods following a Dec. 5 small plane crash that set two homes ablaze and severely injured the pilot.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reported Wednesday that the changes require planes taking off from Ogden-Hinckley Airport to fly higher when they clear airport boundaries headed southwest toward Roy.
Roy Mayor Joe Ritchie called the new rule a step in the right direction.
Ogden Chief Administrative Officer John Patterson says the city is still negotiating with the Federal Aviation Administration to change flight patterns around the airport.
