ALTA -- Both landline and cell phone service to the town of Alta is down due to a fiber optics cable that was cut Friday.

As a result, 911 emergency communications phone circuits are not working.

Residents of Alta who need immediate emergency assistance should call 801- 742-3333, listen to the recorded message and then dial extension 262.

The town of Alta, the Unified Police Department and the Unified Fire Authority have established a command post in the area and will monitor that number and radio traffic for any emergency response that is needed.

The cut line does not affect the Snowbird area or any other areas in Salt Lake County.
