SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Wilderness Society is saying that solar energy developments in Utah should be limited to a specific zone in the southwestern part of the state.
In a report released Monday, the group says that federal land managers should limit the developments in the state to the Milford Flats area west of Beaver. That area is ideal because of minimal environmental conflicts and existing infrastructure, such as power lines.
Ted Wilson, the environmental advisor to Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, told The Associated Press that Milford Flats is ideal for solar power. But other areas in Utah are valuable and should be considered for development.
Additionally, counties should have input on development plans and restrictions, Wilson says.
