SALT LAKE CITY -- Christmas came a little early for thousands of Utah kids this year. Saturday, Santa's helpers dressed in police uniforms and took them shopping.

Kids, cops and firefighters teamed up with the Jazz Bear in Salt Lake City for the annual "Shop with a Cop" event. From boots to Barbie makeup, the kids got everything on their Christmas wish lists.

Some, however, focused on getting gifts for others.

"We're having a great time," said Sgt. Julie Jorgensen with West Valley City police. "We have to get up really early, but the kids make it worthwhile."

Officers and firefighters say despite the early hour, the tradition is the highlight of their year. Santa and the officers will be making more holiday shopping visits throughout the state through the Christmas season.
