SANDY -- A driver believed to be under the influence of prescription drugs hit a Utah Highway Patrol car on I-15 in Sandy, with the trooper in the vehicle.

UHP says the trooper was pulled off to the left at about 9300 South helping with traffic control. He was sitting in his vehicle around 9:30 a.m. when a Jeep going 60 miles per hour side-swiped the car.

The driver pulled over about 200 feet from the initial impact.

Investigators believe the man was driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

Both the driver and the trooper were taken to Intermountain Medical Center to be checked for minor injuries then released.

Damage to the patrol car is approximately $7,000.
