LAYTON -- Layton police continue to investigate a man's death after a FrontRunner train hit him Wednesday night.
The man, identified as 20-year-old Anthony Kuhns, and a friend were taking a shortcut to the Walmart near the FrontRunner tracks at 1000 West and Hillfield Road around 8:30 p.m.
Layton police Sgt. Jason Hinojosa said the train operator honked and hit the brakes.
"As far as I can tell the operator did do an emergency stop on the train," he said. "From what I can tell, from what I've been told he did see that there were two people on the tracks."
Kuhns' friend managed to outrun the train but Kuhns did not.
Hinojosa also said there were no drugs or alcohol involved.
UTA said the area where the accident happened is private property and no one should be walking on the tracks.
