SALT LAKE CITY - The Drug Enforcement Administration is moving to outlaw herbal and chemical blends sold as synthetic marijuana or Spice.

Within 30 days, the DEA will classify five chemicals that mimic active chemicals in marijuana as illegal drugs.

The move will give the Department of Health and Human Services time to study whether the chemicals should be permanently regulated as controlled substances.

Several cities in Utah have already banned Spice.

A bill that would regulate spice is also moving forward in the Utah Legislature.
