PROVO -- A former Provo police officer accused of sexual assault while on duty appeared in court Thursday.

Jeffery Westerman faces charges of forcible sexual abuse. The case involves a minor traffic accident last summer. A woman reported Westerman fondled her in exchange for not arresting her for DUI.

On Thursday, Westerman asked that he be given another two weeks to consider a plea offer from prosecutors.

If he doesn't take the deal, Westerman will then be scheduled for a trial.
