PROVO -- A former Provo police officer entered a not guilty plea Thursday morning to charges he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty.
Jeffery Westerman is accused of taking advantage of a 29-year-old woman from California during a minor traffic accident July 22. According to the woman, whose story is backed up with surveillance video, Westerman threatened to take her to jail unless she gave in to his sexual demands.
He was fired from the police force after the allegations surfaced. Prosecutors charged him with forcible sexual abuse and obstruction of justice.
Westerman is scheduled to return to court next month.
