WEST VALLEY CITY -- A suspected serial robber is accused of trying to rob a Fresh Market store after he failed to get cash from the store's ATM.
West Valley City police say Wayne Gauger tried using the machine at the store at 3520 S. 5700 West several times Thursday evening but entered the wrong PIN each time. He finally gave up, approached some Fresh Market employees, told them he had a gun and that he was robbing them.
Investigators say instead store security chased Gauger to a nearby home. Police surrounded the house, barged in, found Gauger and arrested him. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
Investigators believe he may be responsible for several other robberies in the area.
