SALT LAKE CITY -- A woman was killed on the 2100 South freeway Thursday evening when an out-of-control van slammed into her SUV, causing it to roll.
The accident happened at 5:30 p.m near the 5600 West exit. Utah Highway Patrol troopers say a man lost control of the van he was driving, crossed several lanes of traffic and cut in front of the woman's SUV.
The SUV crashed into a fence along the frontage road. The female driver died shortly after emergency crews arrived.
Investigators suspect the driver of the van was under the influence of some type of controlled substance.
The crash and the investigation closed westbound 201 from Bangerter Highway to the 5600 West exit for several hours.
