Bingham Miners 51, Jordan Beetdiggers 23

Defending champion Bingham has reached it's fourth 5A title game in the last 5 years by taking care of Jordan 51-23. Quarterback Stefan Cantwell had a big game in the air and on the ground. He was 19-27 for 289 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 76 yards and two scores.

Jordan finds the end zone late in the 4th. Hill tosses to Ethan Jones in the corner of the end zone. It was set up by a 51 yard pass play to Taylor Loomis.

After Jordan turns the ball over on downs, the Miners drive into the red zone but on 3rd down Cantwell is swarmed by several Beetdigger defenders and is sacked. Bingham settles for a 36 yard field goal by Kyle Duke and lead 51-17.

On the next play, Cantwell throws another touchdown pass to Brady Measom, an 18 yard score. Measom did a great job keeping the low pass from hitting the turf.

Another tough break for Jordan. They fumble the kickoff return and Bingham's Drake Miller recovers at the Jordan 16-yard line.

Bingham burns a lot of clock on this drive. Stefan Cantwell fumbled the snap but recovered, bounced off several Jordan defenders into the end zone. The 23 yard touchdown run gives Bingham a 24 point lead with just 14:51 left in the game.

Jordan answers the Bingham score with a 9-play, 72 yard scoring drive. McCoy Hill keeps the ball and runs 14 yards into the end zone. If the Jordan defense can get stops they have the offense to get back in this game.

Bingham strikes quickly. Stefan Cantwell finds Josh Smith who races down the sideline 77 yards for the score.

Halftime stats: Miners have 259 yards of total offense while Jordan has 157. Bingham RB Harvey Langi has rushed for 99 yards on 12 carries including a 30 yard touchdown. Stefan Cantwell is winning the quarterback battle with McCoy Hill. Cantwell is 10-15 for 150 yards, 2 TD's and no interceptions. He also has a 1 yard touchdown run along with 41 yards rushing. Hill is 5-15 with 3 interceptions and has been sacked three times. he has 12 carries for 50 yards and a 6-yard touchdown.

This game was even until that controversial pass interference penalty caused a huge momentum shift. Bingham scored on the following play. Two of three interceptions by McCoy Hill led to 14 points by the Miners. That has been the difference in the game.

Bingham quarterback Stefan Cantwell sneaks past the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown. Bingham has trouble with the snap on the extra point which is no good. Miners take a 27-10 lead into the locker room.

Cantwell hits Brady Measom who comes up one yard short of the end zone. Now with :10 left in the half, the Miners call timeout as they try to pad their lead. Jordan defense desperately needs a stop. Miners get the ball to open the 2nd half.

Jordan DB Tyler Swan makes a great play to knock down what would have been another Bingham touchdown but on the next play Harvey Langi carries the ball into the red zone. Miners have :15 seconds left at the 12-yard line.

Two plays after the bad snap, Jordan quarterback McCoy Hill bulls his way into the end zone from 6 yards out. Beetdiggers are back in this game.

Jordan gets a big break. Bingham forced to punt and the snap goes over the punter's head. Jordan recovers the loose ball at the Miners 11 yard line. Jordan can cut the lead to 11.

Bingham linebacker Andrew Clark sacks McCoy Hill on the blitz followed by an incomplete pass on 3rd down. Jordan settles for a 33-yard field goal by Cody Rogers.

Jordan is in the red zone. Hill throws a beautiful pass to Mason Gajkowski for a 39-yard gain.

Next play Hill throws his 3rd interception of the game, picked off by Moses Kaumatule at the Jordan 44-yard line. On the next play, Cantwell hits Josh Smith in stride for a 44 yard touchdown. Jordan has the offense to score points in a hurry but against this Miners defense it might be tough for them to dig out of this hole.

Beautiful throw by Hill to Taylor Dean for a big gain. Jordan approaching midfield.

Harvey Langi takes the handoff and runs 30 yards for a touchdown. Bingham took 2:05 to drive 46 yards in 5 plays.

McCoy Hill picked off by Bridger Peck. Bingham at the Jordan 30 and driving.

That terrible pass interference call has impacted the game. Bingham chooses to go for it on 4th and 4 at the Jordan 15-yard line. They go with the pass and Cantwell hits Dalton Fackrell on a slant for a 15-yard touchdown.

Jordan's Taylor Frenchwood just crushed Bingham quarterback Stefan Cantwell forcing a 3rd and long. On the next play the pass was incomplete but the referee made a terrible pass interference call to keep the Miner's drive alive.

McCoy Hill drove the Beetdiggers down the field but his pass into the end zone went through the hands of the receiver and was picked off by Bingham's Logan Parker. The interception in the end zone gives the Miners the ball at the 20. Could be a big momentum changer.

Miners get 23 of the 27 yards they needed but come up short of a first down. After the punt Beetdiggers take over on their own 30.

The Miners defense forces a punt after a sack but after getting the ball the offense is penalized for holding and a personal foul. Bingham faces a 1st and 27 from their own 5.

Forgot to mention that Hill is also a 1,000 yard rusher. He just ran the ball for a big gain and the Beetdiggers are in Bingham territory.

1st play for Jordan is a 19 yard gain as McCoy Hill finds a receiver in the seam for a 1st down.

Both teams have entered the field and we are about to get underway at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Bingham is ranked 5th in the nation by USA Today and they are heavy favorites in this game. But Jordan has been very impressive in the first two rounds of the playoffs outscoring Davis and Cottonwood by a combined score of 114 to 45. Quarterback McCoy Hill is a terrific quarterback and if he avoids interceptions he can spread out the field with their effective passing game and give the Miners a challenge.
