BRIGHTON - Utah's ski season is officially opened Thursday as Brighton Ski Resort turned on some of their lifts.
Brighton originally planned to open Friday, but because of some good snowfall the resort was able to open two of their chairlifts a day early.
Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders who lined up to buy lift tickets Thursday morning to be the first to hit the slopes.
"A lot of the fresh stuff out there," said snowboarder Jamie Savage, "about a foot deep. Definitely a lot of fun. More than one could expect."
Brighton has about 30 inches of snow as of Thursday at the bottom of the slopes, and it's anywhere from 8 to 15 inches depending on where it's been manipulated.
Jared Winkler with Brighton Ski Resort said, "The biggest advantage we get from being at our elevation is the majority of our snow is fresh snow from the gods. But we have worked hard on some snow making over the week, and spread that out on some areas, and it's done very well."
Brighton's neighbor, Solitude, plans on opening three lifts Friday morning.
