KEARNS -- Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon announced Tuesday that the Energy Smart Loan will now be available to all homeowners and homes in Salt Lake County.

The Energy Smart Loan is a low-interest program designed to make households more energy efficient and lower monthly bills for heat, lights and air conditioning.

"In an economy where people are always looking to save a penny and a dime here and there, some of the simplest returns on investments in the home is some of those energy-efficiency upgrades, and very simple things like switching to compact fluorescent lights and weather-stripping your door," said Darin Bush, executive director of the Community Development Corporation of Utah.

Loans can be for a minimum of $2,000 up to $50,000 for upgrading everything from furnaces to installing solar panels.
