SPRINGVILLE -- Springville police say a clerk who was high on spice inadvertently allowed people to steal from a convenience store.
Police received a call around 2 a.m. Friday from someone saying the 7-Eleven clerk at 200 N. Main was acting strangely and may be intoxicated.
When an officer arrived to check on the clerk, a group of people at the store left quickly. Officers called the store owners. They later reviewed surveillance tapes and discovered people had stolen beer, food and cash from the store during the incident.
Police say the clerk had been smoking spice, which is not illegal in Springville although it recently has been banned in several other Utah towns. He was not cited and no arrests have been made.
