Suspect robs Marine Products in Sandy at gunpoint

Sandy police Sgt. Troy Arnold said, We're very concerned anytime somebody goes in and robs a business with a gun. But when they start firing rounds we can see that it's an escalation and this is somebody that we definitely want to get off the streets before it gets any more dangerous than it already did today."

The man fled from the scene and police pursued him into Murray, where they called off the chase when he entered a neighborhood.

Police later found the suspect's car near 5960 S. Blue Stone Circle in Murray. The car was abandoned and there was cash on the ground around the vehicle.

Police describe the man as a white male in his mid 30s and about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. The suspect also had a distinct tattoo of barbed wire or of stitching on the back of his neck.

As a precaution, three schools Viewmont and Grant Elementary and Riverview Junior High were placed on lockdown. Police do not believe the man went towards the schools. The lockdown was lifted around the time school got out.

There were similar robberies earlier Monday morning and police are checking to see if they may be connected.
