SALT LAKE CITY -- Big hopes turned to broken hearts as the Utes fell hard in a match against TCU Saturday in Salt Lake City.

Tens of thousands of people descended on Rice-Eccles Stadium for one of the biggest games ever played in the state. It was an epic matchup: the third-ranked Horned Frogs of TCU squaring off against undefeated and fifth-ranked Utah Utes.

"It's a little disappointing, but it was a good game," said Ute fan Howard Clark.

This is not the ending fans wanted for this story, going into the game people were pumped and optimistic.

Of course, Saturday wasn't just about the game, It was also about the prep work and the building of excitement. Hundreds of people camped out overnight -- some to get an early start tailgating, others to be first in line to get a prime spot for ESPN's GameDay broadcast.

It was a big party atmosphere all day. Fans hopped from one spot to another and the food and drinks flowed freely.

Not all fans walked away disappointed.

"It felt great," said TCU fan Tom Morris. "We knew we had a good team, and we were hoping they showed, and they showed big today."

Friday night, KSL told you the story of a man whose mother died of cancer. The funeral was Saturday.

In her honor, he decided to give away his tickets to the game to the person who performed the best act of service.

He selected a woman and her father -- who also has cancer. The daughter baked pies for the doctors and other patients at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Devoted Ute fans are now turning their focus to the big rivalry game against the BYU Cougars in three weeks, hoping for a different outcome.
