SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder will serve another four-year term. He defeated challenger Beau Babka by capturing 57 percent of the vote.

Winder told KSL Tuesday night that his re-election campaign was successful because it focused on issues important to the voters.

"The issues of fiscal conservatism. The issues of being tough on crime, which we have been. We have not reduced our service levels over the last four years despite being in some of the toughest economic times in U.S. history," he said. "All of those things have resonated with citizens, and I am very honored that they have seen fit to restore me for another four years."

Winder said he will continue to focus on fiscal conservatism. "We're still in these tough times and until revenues rebound we have to watch every dollar we spend," he said.

He also plans to focus on consolidated law enforcement services in Salt Lake County and jail overcrowding.
