SALT LAKE CITY -- Early voting results show that republicans make up a larger portion of those voting early than in previous years.

Early votes include mail-in ballots, absentee ballots and votes cast by people showing up at an early voting polling place.

GOP voters made up 46 percent of Utah's early electorate in 2008. So far this year, they make up 53 percent.

Early voters in Salt Lake County top the state in this election, with 53 percent of the votes already cast having come from Salt Lake County voters.

In all, nearly 90,000 voters have cast early ballots.
