(KSL News) A 12-year-old Garfield County boy who disappeared on Monday has been found safe and in excellent condition.

Raphael Scott from Boulder somehow became separated from an adult while hiking near the King Bench Cattle Trail.

Authorities say Scott knew he would have to spend the night so he curled up by a tree and hunkered down. He was wearing a light jacket and open-toed sandals, but survived the night of 15 degree temperatures.

Search teams brought in rescue helicopters and search dogs. Scott heard them but couldn't flag them down.

The next morning, Scott found his way back to the trail.
