SPANISH FORK -- Police arrested two men who they say tried to replace their broken appliances by stealing from a neighboring residence.

The Daily Herald reports police were called to a row of townhomes in Spanish Fork at 3 a.m. Friday. A resident saw two men on the roof of a unit that was for rent. They entered through a broken window.

When police arrived, they found a stove from the townhouse sitting on the front lawn. Police questioned neighbors and noticed one had a cut on his hand.

He and another man initially denied knowing about the break-in. But they later told police their stove and refrigerator had broken, so they were going to replace their appliances with ones from the townhome next door.

The suspects, Wesley Bird, 22, and Derek Whatley, 20, were booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of burglary of a dwelling, theft and criminal mischief.
