SALT LAKE CITY -- A kindergarten teacher from West Highland is Utah's Teacher of the Year.

Friday night educators announced Gay Beck is the 2011 award recipient. Beck teaches at Highland Elementary School in West Highland, Utah.

She received a $10,000 check, an interactive white board to use in her classroom, and other equipment.

Sheri Heiter, a mathematics teacher at Weber High School, received $5,000 as first runner-up.

Highland High School history teacher Rob Gardner was second runner-up and received $3,000.
