FINAL Fourth Quarter
Utah State 31, BYU 16
It was another tough loss for the Cougars, who have now dropped 4 straight games by double digits. I won't labor on the rough spots. There are more than a few. Primarily, though, BYU is having three problems: (1) receivers are dropping too many passes, (2) the offensive line is getting no push run blocking, and (3) the front seven is not tackling well at all. The good news is, there is plenty of room to get better in all three areas the rest of the year. How fast the Cougars improve will determine how many games BYU wins and loses. The one positive in this game was Jake Heaps' development, though he made some mistakes. His final numbers were 27/54 271 yds 0 TD 2 INT. He never gave up, and actually threw a lot of balls incredibly on the money. There must have been 10 balls that went through receivers hands, or were dropped. The 54 throws in a game is very high but they do give Heaps needed reps he didn't get earlier in the season. Utah State deserves a lot of credit in this game. After the Aggies were worked by SDSU last week, there were plenty of question marks. Diondre Borel was efficient (9/12 181 1 TD 0 INT, 10 car. 69 yds. TD), and the defensive front seven outhustled BYU's offensive line. The Cougars now face two more toughies -- SDSU at home and TCU in Fort Worth. It is possible for BYU to win next week, but it will require significant improvement on both sides of the ball.

5:11 Fourth Quarter
Utah State 31, BYU 10
The Cougars don't look like they have much life at this point. The Offense has fizzled on most of their drives some promise shown but the Cougars just cannot catch the football tonight and the defense looks lost.
9:59 Fourth Quarter
Utah State 31, BYU 10
Hand it to UTAH State they have taken advantage of everything in this game and made BYU pay consistently throughout the night. Running, passing and solid defense have all been a part of UTAH State's success in this game.
00:00 Third Quarter
Utah State 31, BYU 10
Just to bring you up to speed, BYU is showing a little life of late, but it was 31-3 before that life started showing up. The play of the night, I would have to say, was made by a ref minutes ago. BYU had a 4th and Goal. It was a clear pass interference and incomplete pass in the endzone. The ref then calls it complete and penalty declined, touchdown. Huh? Somebody is losing interest in the game, white hat. That call was bad enough, it will make it on a 'need to get away?' ad some day. It was that bad. We'll see if BYU can pull off a miracle in the 4th ...

1:21 Third Quarter
Utah State 31, BYU 10
Is there any life left after the Defense comes up with a 3 and out. The offense needs to answer here. The misses earlier look really big now. Time to get the ball back in the end zone if BYU is intersted in staying in this game.....

11:00 Third Quarter
Utah State 24, BYU 3
Safe to say, Jake Heaps is not why BYU is trailing in this game. Two well-thrown balls into the endzone. The receivers couldn't come up with either one, although it did look like Luke Ashworth was interfered with on one throw. Mitch Payne missed a 48 yard field goal, and the score remains 24-3. What is evident in the game right now is the BYU offensive line is getting no surge against Utah State. Pass protection has been alright, but run protection has been on the disappointing side of average ... at best. Cougars are playing a little fired up to start the second half, but the motivation may wane if BYU can't come up with some points quickly.

This is an interesting game so far with the BYU offense. BYU seems to be inconsistent with the offense. The run game at times has been very effective, but then not so much. Big 4th and 1 coming up in Aggie Territory. Aggie Defense holds! Over to the Aggies on downs.

Ryan Moates 79 yard catch from Borell. The Defense so far has given up two of Utah State's biggest plays of the season. The offense has had two series with no luck and hardly any movement.
12:18 First Quarter

First drive very promising until a hesistation on 3rd and short and the Cougars are going to punt it away. Utah State starts deep in their own territory.
