(KSL News) A major new soccer complex to be built near Salt Lake's airport on the county line may get a new partner.

Voters approved the 22-field, $25-million project. It is still waiting for a promised $7.5 million contribution from professional soccer team Real Salt Lake.

Davis County may get involved with new fields to be added just across the boundary. David County Director of Economic Development Wilf Sommerkorn says, "We think it would make a great partnership to just come together and work with Salt Lake City and Real to make it one large soccer park that would span the county boundary."

Soccer complex organizer Dave Spatafore likes the idea. He says, "We want to make sure that together with Davis County, the state of Utah becomes a partner. We take care of our local kids, and then we use this as an economic engine for Salt Lake County, Davis County and the state of Utah."

Davis Area Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Barbara Riddle says, "With this location being where it's at, it's a perfect fit for Davis County and Davis County lodging."

A spokesman for Real Salt Lake says the team is "still on schedule" to deliver its donation next week.
