KAYSVILLE -- The Davis Darts controlled the game on Friday night with resilient defense to beat division rival Northridge 17-14.

The Darts refused to lose.

Both teams were undefeated going into the Region 1 game as Davis looked to overcome another hurdle en route to a championship run. The Northridge Knights seemed to have a chink in their armor as the Davis defense stepped it up, forcing Knights quarterback, Trent Buckley, to think quickly off the run.

"Our defense stopped their run and our offense was able to push so we could run the ball," commented Davis senior, Daniel Moffett. "It was one of the toughest games."

Early in the third quarter, Davis forced Northridge to punt the ball with 10:01 left in the quarter. The Darts capitalized on the opportunity as they marched down the field on a 13-play drive. Senior quarterback, Gavin Fowler, darted into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown to put the Darts up 17-6, with only 3:16 left in the third quarter.

Davis looked to score again in the fourth quarter, but a pass was intercepted in the end zone by Northridge senior Austin Gottschalk. The Knights were able to march down the field and score with 4:06 left in the game on a 8-yard pass to Austin Tate and a two-point conversion to Kalen Larsen, closing the lead to three.

However, the Knights were unable to score again after Andrew Silotti of the Darts intercepted a pass with 0:08 left in the game.

"It's a good win for us," said Tyrel Day. "We have to take it one game at a time."

Turnovers in the game certainly shifted the momentum of the game as the Darts and Knights each had two interceptions. Davis' Kaden Hoskins also recovered a Knights fumble, which set the Darts up for their first touchdown on a 3-play drive. Daniel Moffett caught a 4-yard pass to put the Darts up 7-3 late in the first quarter. Davis never trailed for the rest of the game.

The Darts executed the ball all around with a total of 43 running plays and 21 passing plays, of which, 24 plays were runs in the second half.

Both teams look to be a continual force in 5A football.
