SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The University of Utah is adding a new, red-feathered mascot to its ranks.

Storm is a 6-year-old red-tailed hawk. The raptor makes his home at Salt Lake City's Tracy Aviary. He'll make appearances at Utah athletic competitions as part of a new educational partnership between the aviary and the school.

Tracy Aviary Director of Education Bruce Thompson says the partnership will provide aviary staff with a chance to talk about birds of prey and wildlife conservation efforts with the community. Sports fans will also receive informative handouts about red-tailed hawks at each event.

Red-tailed hawks are among the largest North American hawks and are Utah's most-common raptor.

Storm has already made several appearances at Utah football games.
