Gene Kennedy reportingKids love Halloween in Utah, but make sure you give them treats, not tricks.

The Salt Lake Tribune interviewed a couple dozen kids who will likely trick or treat tonight. In this morning's paper, the kids spell out what they don't want you to give them when they ring the door bell.

Here's the list of things they consider tricks, not treats

  • Hard candy like butterscotch discs, root beer barrells, Jolly Ranchers
  • Suckers
  • "Wax Factor" candies like candy corn, taffy, Tootsie Rolls
  • Smarties and Necco wafers
  • Extreme flavors, like black licorice, sour apple, cinnamon

According to the National Confectioners Assocation, 35-percent of adults hand out candy that's their personal favorite. 28-percent will buy what's on sale and only 16-percet buy their children's favorties. And, 90-percent admit snagging candy from their child's goody bags.
