SANDY -- Shoppers at a Deseret Industries store in Sandy tackled a registered sex offender Tuesday afternoon and held him until police arrived after the man was suspected of assaulting a young girl. Police say a family was shopping at the Deseret Industries on 700 East and 9400 South. A young girl asked her mother if she could walk over and look at the toy section. Within minutes, the girl's mother saw that she was missing and notified store employees.

She then found the girl and 41-year-old Richard Chad Randall in the men's room. He fled when the mother screamed. Shoppers ran after him and held him for police.

Randall is now in the Salt Lake County Jail facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, rape of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
