DUCHESNE COUNTY -- A judge in Duchesne County has sentenced a former boarding school nurse to prison for sexually abusing four teenage students.
According to the Deseret News, Judge George Harmond ordered Geary Oakes to serve up to five years on each of four counts of sex abuse. Oakes earlier pleaded guilty to the counts as part of a plea deal.
Oakes will also serve an additional year for a charge of unprofessional conduct. The sentences are concurrent.
Oakes had worked as a nurse at Cedar Ridge Academy -- a facility for troubled teens in Roosevelt -- for the past 10 years. Prosecutors say Oakes engaged in sexual activity with the victims, fondled them and showed them pornography.
During sentencing Thursday, Oakes told the court that his goal is to "never have another victim."
The judge said Oakes' lack of impulse control makes him a risk to the community.
